One of the questions I get asked most is “what the heck should I wear for my shoot?”.  To which I have an incredibly long-winded reply that you’ve likely heard if we’ve photographed together before!  However, even though I love giving that thorough reply on the phone, I know it often helps to see some of the concepts in photographs!  The Bombshell is the classic boudoir look.
It is defined by high heels, sexy thigh highs, and some super sexy lingerie in the form of a corset or a strappy or lacy lingerie set like the ones seen below!
Does it all have to be black?  Certainly not…feel free to rock some fun colors for this look!  To me black is classic bombshell, which is why I seem to have selected examples in just black!
Tip: For ladies who are self conscious about their mid-section, this is a great opportunity to wear a corset, waist cincher or even vintage looking high-wasited panties!
Tip: When selecting your thigh-highs be sure you have a pair that doesn’t feel too tight on your thigh.  If you plan to wear them with a garter belt, I recommend getting a pair that does not have the stay-up silicone lining at the top as they will attach better without it!

The beautiful Miss M did a session to celebrate her 30th birthday!  Can you think of a more fabulous way to welcome in your 30s?  She came in to the Old Town studio, was styled by my amazing make-up artist, and photographed yours truly!  She walked away with a gorgeous silk-bound box of images and even more spunk than she arrived with.

I wanted to show you a quick before and after because I’ve heard so many women say that I only photograph models, however in reality, my clients are all real women with real stories and real skin.  We all deserve to spend a day being pampered, styled, made-up professionally and photographed beautifully.  This is Miss M when she arrived, and after styling and posing!

With all the beautiful brides I’ve had in lately, I wanted to share a few quick favorites from Miss A’s session.  Her bodysuit was absolutely perfect for a bridal look, and the tulle veil was a lovely addition as well!

If you have a wedding coming up, shoot me an e-mail and we’ll get you booked in so you can give stunning photographs like these to your groom!  I just had two lovely brides call me less than a month before the wedding and I was still able to squeeze them in and have a few photographs in hand by their wedding day!  (More time is always better though!  It allows us more time to plan and more time for you to shop!)

The lovely Ana of Make-up by Ana B was kind enough to write us a guest post to help you prepare for your session!  Since she is the stylist who works with most of my clients before their sessions, she knows exactly how to help you prepare for your shoot!

Having your own boudoir photoshoot is such a fun and feminine experience. Whether it’s a gift to your significant other, or a gift to yourself (yes, please!), there is no one in the world with your skin, your hair, your smile, and that perfect combination that makes you beautifully YOU! So why not embrace it?!  Here are some simple ways to get yourself prepped and (excited!) for your shoot.
1. NAILS: Who needs an excuse for a manicure? You do! Keep in mind your wardrobe when selecting your nail color. Choose a color that compliments your lingerie and clothing selections, but also reflects your personal style. Some of my favorites are soft pink, nude, grey, navy blue or black. If you’re doing a themed or holiday shoot, red is a great option too!
2. SKIN: Don’t skimp on the skin routine. Skin should be exfoliated, clean and well moisturized. If your skin is dry, makeup only makes it more obvious. MAC Studio Moisture Cream and Embryolisse Face cream are personal favorites. Don’t forget to exfoliate and moisturize the lips as well. Lush Lip Scrub tastes like popcorn and helps to smooth the lips, win-win!
3. HAIR: The perfect boudoir hair looks natural and not overdone. We love voluminous curls or waves, but short hair can be equally sexy too! If you need to refresh your roots or boost your color, you may want to visit your hairdresser a week before the shoot. The great thing is you can wash, run a dime size of hair smoothing serum such as John Frieda Frizz Ease into the hair, and wear your hair to the appointment; we’ll style it for you!  Second day hair (after washing) works for us too! We often use dry shampoo to give the hair texture and volume to style. If you plan on wearing your hair curly for your shoot, you can wash and add your usual curly hair products, but keep it soft and malleable.
Finally, don’t worry about a thing! This is your chance to get dolled up, photographed in a beautiful and comfy setting, and have a little fun! The point after all, is to celebrate your femininity and your unique beauty in an unforgettable way!
