How to Prepare for your Session: Guest Post by Ana B {Washington DC Boudoir Photographer}

The lovely Ana of Make-up by Ana B was kind enough to write us a guest post to help you prepare for your session!  Since she is the stylist who works with most of my clients before their sessions, she knows exactly how to help you prepare for your shoot!

Having your own boudoir photoshoot is such a fun and feminine experience. Whether it’s a gift to your significant other, or a gift to yourself (yes, please!), there is no one in the world with your skin, your hair, your smile, and that perfect combination that makes you beautifully YOU! So why not embrace it?!  Here are some simple ways to get yourself prepped and (excited!) for your shoot.
1. NAILS: Who needs an excuse for a manicure? You do! Keep in mind your wardrobe when selecting your nail color. Choose a color that compliments your lingerie and clothing selections, but also reflects your personal style. Some of my favorites are soft pink, nude, grey, navy blue or black. If you’re doing a themed or holiday shoot, red is a great option too!
2. SKIN: Don’t skimp on the skin routine. Skin should be exfoliated, clean and well moisturized. If your skin is dry, makeup only makes it more obvious. MAC Studio Moisture Cream and Embryolisse Face cream are personal favorites. Don’t forget to exfoliate and moisturize the lips as well. Lush Lip Scrub tastes like popcorn and helps to smooth the lips, win-win!
3. HAIR: The perfect boudoir hair looks natural and not overdone. We love voluminous curls or waves, but short hair can be equally sexy too! If you need to refresh your roots or boost your color, you may want to visit your hairdresser a week before the shoot. The great thing is you can wash, run a dime size of hair smoothing serum such as John Frieda Frizz Ease into the hair, and wear your hair to the appointment; we’ll style it for you!  Second day hair (after washing) works for us too! We often use dry shampoo to give the hair texture and volume to style. If you plan on wearing your hair curly for your shoot, you can wash and add your usual curly hair products, but keep it soft and malleable.
Finally, don’t worry about a thing! This is your chance to get dolled up, photographed in a beautiful and comfy setting, and have a little fun! The point after all, is to celebrate your femininity and your unique beauty in an unforgettable way!
